5,000,000 STEPS
On September 25th, 2022, we welcome you to join people around the nation in our attempt to walk a grand total of 5,000,000 steps as a walkathon in support of mental health awareness. On the day of, people can submit the number of steps they have walked through our form by clicking here. Everyone who participates or hears about the event is highly encouraged to donate to the cause. This is a really personal cause that everyone on the team cares deeply about, so we made A Step in the Right Direction to promote healthy walking, openness about mental health, and donations to provide critical resources to organizations that can do great things. Feel free to click below and learn more about the story.
YOUR DONATION'S IMPACT
The core of this walk is the funding that we can give to the mental health organizations. Learn more about where the money goes.

HOW ARE DONATIONS GIVEN TO NON-PROFITS?
With the national impact at the heart of A Step in the Right Direction USA, we chose to give half of the funds we raise in each city to the regional NAMI location of that area and the other half to a local non-profit dedicated to mental healthcare, which changes depending on the city that one decides to donate towards.

NAMI REGIONAL LOCATIONS
Half of the donations raised by A Step in the Right Direction will go to NAMI's regional locations.

Their impact: the National Alliance on Mental Illness is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. This fundraiser can direct funds towards providing extra staffing and support for crucial programs like their Living Room Program, which can be explained here in this video. Click here for video.

These locations are: NAMI Central Texas, NAMI Metro Suburban (Chicago), NAMI St. Louis, NAMI KDK, and NAMI San Luis Obispo.

LOCAL NON PROFITS
At A Step in the Right Direction, we believe that there's an enormous value in giving money to local charity. Not only do these types of charitable organizations generally have lower overhead costs than global ones, but a local non-profit can also have a better understanding of exactly what issues are going on in the community. Thus, we have chosen to donate half of the money to local mental health charities. In each city, half of the money raised for that location will go towards their selected charity.

HOW FAR IS 5Â MILLION STEPS?
Every 2,000 steps that the average person takes equates to about 1 mile. That means that in total, we're trying to walk the equivalent distance of New York City to LA or Maine to Costa Rica, all by walking!
